Indie Games to Check Out on PlayStation This Year
If you were to ask me a few years ago if I cared if indie games were coming out, I’d have shook my head and called you a hipster. There were a few games that stood out such as Torchlight, Minecraft and Super Meat Boy. But nothing really excited me until I tried out Hotline Miami and switched from an indie-hating gamer to someone who saw potential. My hatred was mainly from buying so many awful, yet recommended, indie games on Steam. I can’t even begin to tell you how many stupid rougelike games I have that aren’t any fun at all. And there was something unappealing from the indie-only fans, much like the problem I have with PC-only or console-only gamers. But that’s then and this is now. I really enjoy a host of indie games and while my PC is still heavily used for quirky titles, my PlayStation has been really good at putting out a collection of high quality indie games that remind me of why I’m a gamer.
Ya know. To have fun!
So I decided to compile a list of PlayStation brand indies coming until the end of this year that I’m excited about. I’d do the same for the PC, Wii U, 3DS, and Xbox One, but for the sake of this blog post, I’m sticking with Sony’s brand.
To start, we’re going with the game that was released today on PC, PS3, PS4 and Vita. Hotline Miami 2 is a top-down hyper violent shooter set in the late 80s/early 90s. And it’s the follow-up to my top indie game of all time (or at least that I can think of). I’ve been enjoying the game a lot so far tonight and plan on reviewing it once I’ve completed it. I’d stream my progress, but I want to get used to the controls again and just have fun with the story.
