Monthly Pick-Ups: November 2014

I haven’t blogged in a while. Life got in the way. But not that I’ve rid myself of life, I can blog again. Funny how that works. I figured a good way to make a “come back” is to write about my wastefulness on Black Friday Month. Target (and others) with their “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” deal is just too tempting sometimes. So without further delay, here’s my November 2014 purchases!

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Wii U)
The reason to truly own a Wii U is here! Over the weekend, I put in a good amount of time trying to re-learn the game that I cherish so much. Last night for the first time, I played with a friend and his wife online. It felt like when I was a teenager and I had my friends close to me.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity (PS4)
As much as I wanted to boycott this game solely for the purpose of it’s console parity issues, I picked it up as one of the deals from Target’s B2G1 deal. And what a mistake that was when a perfectly great game like Bayonetta 2 is available for pick-up as well. Sorry, Hideki Kamiya.

I’ll get around to reviewing this game but my initial impression is that this game wasn’t ready for release. It’s buggy as the reports make it out to be. It’s a complete mess in the frame rate department to the point where I’m waiting on a patch to sort things out to give it a chance. Out of all of the games I picked up this month, this was the only one I truly regret picking up.

Dragon Age: Inquisition (Deluxe Edition) (PS4)
I have to give a special thanks to my best friend, Josh, for picking this up for me. It’s a belated birthday gift. I haven’t loaded it up to give any playtime yet. I was clearing out some back catalog until I can sit down and enjoy it. But I wanted to give it attention to give a shout out to my friend. Thanks, Josh.

Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor (PS4)
This was completely off my radar. The last The Lord of the Rings game that I played was War in the North, which is a complete waste of time. Shadows of Mordor was the first game I played and completed out of all of the games I bought this month. I also managed to get a Platinum trophy from it.

I had fun with it, but it starts showing it’s repetitive features early in the game. The land is flat, the enemies are essentially the same, and the quests become stale quickly. The combat is a copy of the Batman: Arkham series. There’s runes that you can equip into your weapons to beef your attacks or specials up. The game just becomes ridiculously easy after you unlock of few epic runes and learn the combo system. But I still had fun with it. And the nemesis system that was introduced is a nice addition to these type of combo brawlers. We can only hope that the next installment of Batman: Arkham steals from Mordor.

Other gaming pick-ups include: Fantasy Life (3DS), Far Cry 4 (PS4), Grand Theft Auto V (PS4), Alien: Isolation (PS4), Hyrule Warriors (Wii U), Call of Duty: Advance Warfare (PS4), Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (The Wild Card Premium Edition) (3DS), Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS), EarthBound (Wii U – Virtual Console), Harvest Moon 2 (3DS – Virtual Console), Pokémon Trading Card Game (3DS – Virtual Console), The Binding of Issac (PS4), Frozen Synapse Prime (PS3), LUFTRAUSERS (PS3), Escape Plan (PS4/Vita), The Hungry Horde (Vita)

Blu-Rays: Gremlins 2: The New Batch, The Mask, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Number 23, The A-Team, Dumb & Dumber, Old School, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Steelbook), Psycho (Steelbook)
